Here is my recipe.
Take some Beatles, then add into the pot some Jethro Tull and King Crimson. You continue the recipe by throwing in a little bit of Yes (especially Steve Howe). Then a huge dose of the Grateful Dead. After that you mix in all of Zep and AC/DC. Of course, being a guitarist we can't forget Hendrix in liberal quantities.
Then you let that stew for a few years. When it becomes tender you start to add the more earthy spices. This means you gotta pour in the Elmore James, the Big Bill Broonzy, the Leadbelly, the Blind Blake, and the Blind Lemon. And of course if you really want to get some devilish spirit going you must add in the Sonny Boy Williamson (II) (He is the very definition of Baaaddd).
Now bring all of this back to a boil. When it is hot and steamy, add the T-Bone Walker. But becareful with this one. Because even though he is the blues he is also jazz and this is gonna pull you in two directions at once.
T-Bone is gonna take you straight to Charlie Christian and then Charlie is gonna introduce you to Django Rheinhardt and then all hell breaks loose. When you add the Django, your tongue (and brain cells) are gonna start to sizzle. What Django did with only 2.5 fingers on his left hand should be an inspiration to us all. Anyway, after adding the Django, let it sit awhile. The flavors that Django brings are gonna take us other places now.
Once Django has settled into the mix we gotta add in some other instrumentalists. Charlie Parker, John Coltrane are essential to add to the complexity. But then once you've got these tastes in there, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and Thelonious Monk are not far behind. To keep thing sophisticated, a dash of Gershwin is always useful. But then to finish it all off, add a huge, overflowing cup of Charles Mingus. Charles Mingus changed my life and for me is the greatest composer of the 20th century. Stir this around and add some Barney Kessel, Kenny Burrel, Herb Ellis, Joe Pass and of course Wes Montgomery.
Take it off the fire and that is somehow me at the moment. I don't know if that all makes for good taste, but I hope that it does taste good. I'm sure that it will be different in a little while anyway, so if you don't like it now, maybe you'll like it later.
Peace, love and joy.
